The Women in Successful Careers (WISCAR) Annual Leadership
and Mentoring Conference 2023, which held recently was an inspiring
and power packed convening with actionable recommendations
for positive change.
The influential leaders, accomplished professionals and aspiring talents,
committed to advancing gender equality and women empowerment,
converged at the Muson Centre in Lagos, Nigeria.
The theme for this year’s conference: “In Her Own Voice: Forging Ahead,”
emphasized the importance of gender equality, inclusive governance, and sustainable
development. The event served as a platform for women to amplify their
voices and share their stories of success, challenges, and lessons learned along the way.
The Keynote speaker, Mo Abudu, an award winning Media mogul and
Entrepreneur delivered an impactful speech, sharing insights on the importance
of amplifying women’s voices in leadership. The keynote speaker remarked, “In a world
where diversity drives innovation, it is essential to recognize and elevate
the unique voices of women. WISCAR’s commitment to ‘Forging Ahead’ is
a commendable effort toward creating a more inclusive and equitable future.”
She shared her story; the challenges, breakthroughs, and lessons learned
along the way. Amongst others, she reminded her audience that
“if you can think it, you can do it!” and to always plan and be prepared.
Amina Oyagbola, the visionary founder of WISCAR, expressed
gratitude for the remarkable turnout and engagement at the conference.

of societal progress. Our annual conference is a testament to the collective
commitment to fostering leadership, mentorship, and empowerment.

During the day-long event, attendees engaged in thought provoking panel
discussions, interactive workshops, and networking sessions, fostering
connections, shared experiences, and collaborative exploration. The conference
culminated in the formulation of actionable recommendations for legal and policy
changes, with a specific focus on advancing gender equality and promoting
inclusive growth. Concluding the impactful conference, WISCAR honored Mo Abudu
with the prestigious 12th Distinguished WISCAR Award. This accolade
serves as a testament to WISCAR’s admiration for the remarkable strides
Mo has achieved on her life’s journey.
Tokunboh George Taylor, Chairperson of the 2023 ALMC Planning Committee
reflected on the day’s achievements, stating, “We witnessed the power of collective
voices, experiences, and ideas coming together. ‘In Her Own Voice’
is not just about words; it is a call to action for all of us to play our part
in building a more equal and equitable world.”
