Members of Imo women group, Ehieta Daughters Association (EDA), Umuehieta, Avu, Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State, at the weekend raised funds to assist in the development of their community .
The women who also seized the ocassion to launch their uniform in preparation for Christmas celebrations have also vowed to expose and fight crimes.
Speaking yesterday during the launch and fund raising held in the community, the President of the body, Mrs. Juliet Ikegbula, said the event was necessary to enable them play pivotal roles in the development of their community.
Ikegbula, who disclosed that they had been using the platform to help humanity, commended one of their in-laws / Town Planner, Dr. Grandville Osuji, for helping the body to grow, including drafting the group’s constitution without charges.
She also appealed to the State government, philanthropists and groups to aid them realise the objectives of their group.
She said: “We need the assistance of the governments and philanthropists to enable us grow and bring peace, unity and oneness among the men, women and youths.”
A former President of Nigerian group in the U.S., Dr. Granville Osuji, who was among the awardees at the ocassion in his speech said the age-long body had brought honour to the state and Nigeria, by extension.
Those also honoured at the event are Dr. Louise Obiyo, Dr. Ogechi Akuchie, a member of staff of the British Caledonia International Airways; twin sisters who provided sets of their uniforms, Dr. Nancy Iwuoha and Georgina Duru, an Engineer, Dr. Phanel Egejuru, all residing in the U.S., among others.
