Governor Alex Otti has been commended for prioritising the welfare of teachers in Abia State by prompt payment of their salaries and pensions.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Due Process, Dr Oluebube A. Chukwu made the commendation while speaking with newsmen at the Government House, Umuahia.
Chukwu said by paying teachers salaries and gradual settlement of their pensions and salary arrears which he inherited, among other quality packages, that will go a long way to enhance their performance.
He added that as a career teacher himself, he was highly optimistic that the foundation being led by Governor Otti in Abia, will soon start yielding desired results that will be envied by other states.
While congratulating teachers whom he described as agents of positive change, he urged them to reciprocate Government gesture in order to build a virile and sustainable society.
Chukwu noted that the Labour Party administration in Abia State is pushing ahead in all fronts towards Abia rejuvenation, adding that the recently declared state of emergency on education among other sectors, was a progressive step in the right direction.
He pointed out that the steps have facilitated improved infrastructural development as well as guaranteed supply of modern teaching and learning materials, which are being distributed in various public schools in the state.
