Akwa United on Wednesday unveiled new players jerseys for the 2023/24 Nigeria Premier League, (NPL) season at the Nest of Champions, Uyo before its supporters and the media.

The club chairman, Paul Bassey, disclosed that the team’s previous success has made the fans see 2nd and 3rd finish for the club as a failure. However, he assured stakeholders of a good finish at the end of the league season. He also believes the new jersey will bring good fortunes to the club.

“I am not going to stand here and promise you a league title but I know we have made enough preparation. We have a very good coach, the postponement of the league has been a blessing in disguise.”

The new ‘home’ jersey has an attractive paintbrush design with brown, orange, and black colours in the front. The home jersey back is all orange and complimented with black pants and orange hoses.

The away jersey is predominantly white with orange thunderstorm stripes diagonally printed. The away pant is orange with a white pair of hoses.

Bassey disclosed that unlike previous design samples from the kit manufacturer, Owu, the management team unanimously appreciated this year’s jersey design.

Fans were seen rushing to purchase copies of the jersey as a mark of solidarity with the ‘Promise Keepers’ of Uyo.

Bassey further persuaded fans to endeavour to purchase tickets to watch Akwa United matches despite the economic crunch on citizens. The harsh economic reality consideration has mandated the team to sell the jersey copies at lower rates of N4000. The jersey was auctioned at N3500 for those bought at the unveiling ceremony and will last till Wednesday midnight.
