From Paul Osuyi, Asaba
Buoyed the impressive performance of Labour Party in Delta State during the February 25 presidential election, followers of the party’s candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, have vowed to repeat the feat in this Saturday’s Governorship and House of Assembly elections.
Addressing a press conference in Asaba, four coordinating groups of the Obidient Movement, affirmed their unflinching support for LP governorship candidate, Mr. Ken Pela and House of Assembly candidates.
The coordinating groups including Delta Reformation Movement (DRM), The Big Tent, Coalition for Peter Obi (CPO) and Delta State Coordinators’ Forum (DSCF).
Speaking on behalf of the groups, Jude Obiekwugo who is the spokesman for DRM, insisted that Obidient Movement was not in alliance with any other political party except LP.
“On Saturday 18th March,. 2023, vote LP. Vote Ken K. Pela for governor of Delta State. Pela is an embodiment of true character, capacity, competence and compassion.
“We identify fully with his well crafted blueprint for the realisation of a new Delta, and we urge all Obidients to stand firmly with your PVCs to cast your vote for a new Delta State where righteousness is enthroned.
“A new order where there is accountability, checks and balances in governance, reformed civil service with increased wages and dignity in service, expanded economy built on public private partnership modules, manpower and resource development,” he said.
Obiekwugo warned candidates in other parties attaching Obidient insignia to their posters to desist from it, saying that the characters in such parties do not reflect the ideal of Mr. Obi.
“We are aware the old brigades in their political traditions are giving away money to Nigerians in an attempt to buy their votes. If they give you money, take it and vote for LP. These politicians did not only rob a bank, they stole the bank.
“We need to retire the candidates of the old political order. This election is not about political party, it is about deciding what type of future we want for our country and state.
“Don’t let them deceive you. Their children and families will be fine after this election. What about your family? Don’t sell your future to them again,” he cautioned.
