To exact revenge on his father, a nine-year-old boy in Yobe State has set his family home ablaze, burning his two stepmothers and two stepbrothers to death.
The incident occurred in Rugan Badal, a hamlet in Karasuwa Local Government Area of the state.
It was learnt that the boy’s father had punished him for allegedly stealing a fowl.
The police alleged that the boy set his family home ablaze to exact revenge on his father for the punishment.
The minor confessed to the act in an interview with Channels TV, a clip of which is currently circulating on social media.
He said, “I carried one of our fowls to sell; the general public, looking at my age, reported me to my father, and I was beaten.
“The following day, I bought ₦50 worth of matches in the neighbourhood while my two stepmothers and two younger brothers were asleep; I set our house on fire as revenge for what my father did to me.”
It was learnt that the victims were trapped inside the burning house.
The boy said after the house was engulfed in flames, he raised an alarm to attract neighbours so that they could put out the fire.
“Although when the house caught fire, I only shouted for help and people came for the rescue, I did not tell them that I was the one who did it until after three days of prayer; I now confessed and was later arrested by policemen and brought here to Damaturu,” he said.
The minor was paraded alongside his father, Abubakar Idi, by the Yobe State Police Command on Tuesday.
Parading the duo, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, ASP Yusuf Adamu-Ali, acknowledged the suspect’s young age but emphasised that he would not be allowed to go scot-free so as to serve as a deterrent to others.
