8 perish in Katsina road crash

Eight persons were confirmed dead yesterday  afternoon in a crash involving a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number 14B 92 TR and a Bajaj tricycle, at Layin Kukah, Bakori Local Government Area, Katsina State.

A First Information Report from the Katsina Federal Road Safety Corps said that a total of 25 passengers from the two vehicles were involved in the crash with all the 17 survivors sustaining varying degrees of injuries including fractures and deep lacerations.

According to the report, “the road involved was paved and the crash was classified as fatal. “Preliminary investigation revealed that the probable cause of the crash was wrongful overtaking (WOV).

“A rescue team conducted the rescue operation in collaboration with Community Watch Corps from Funtua to Layin Kukah in Bakori Local Government Area, the victims and corpses were taken to Bakori Comprehensive Hospital for medical attention and further check-up. “Subsequently, the corpses were transferred to General Hospital Funtua.”
