The vibrant movie industry in Nigeria, popularly known as Nollywood, has shown extensive growth in cinematic releases.

The industry has recorded numerous successes and generated massive revenue globally.

Here is the list of the seven most successful Nollywood box office movies:

1. Everybody Loves Jenifa

The popular Nigerian movie, released in 2024, became the highest-grossing film, earning over ₦1.88 billion. It ranks first on the list, with Funke Akindele and Tunde Olaoye as directors.

It broke records with over 219,000 admissions in its theatrical run.

2. A Tribe Called Judah

This film sits in second place, generating over ₦1.4 billion in revenue. Released in 2023 and directed by Funke Akindele, it received widespread positive reviews from audiences.

3. Omo Ghetto: The Saga

Released in 2020, this commercial hit earned over ₦636 million. Directed by Tolulope Ajayi, the action-packed sequel about street hustlers dominated the box office for four consecutive weeks.

4. Battle on Buka Street

The 2022 comedy, directed by BB Sasore, grossed over ₦668 million. It featured Nollywood icon Funke Akindele in a hilarious neighbourhood rivalry drama.

5. The Wedding Party

Directed by Kemi Adetiba, this 2016 release pioneered big-budget Nollywood hits. The romantic comedy, centred on a chaotic wedding, starred iconic actors including Adesua Etomi and grossed ₦452 million.

6. Chief Daddy

This 2017 family comedy, directed by Niyi Akinmolayan, revolves around a wealthy patriarch’s secrets and grossed over ₦387 million.

7. King of Thieves

This 2022 fantasy epic, produced by Femi Adebayo and directed by Tope Adebayo and Adebayo Tijani, earned over ₦320 million.

Praised for its cultural impact and visual spectacle, it became one of the highest-grossing Yoruba-language films in history.
