Tragedy struck Kassa community in Barkin Ladi Local Government ,Plateau State when seven miners were killed after a mining pit collapsed on them.
Our correspondent gathered that the incident occurred at about 7 p.m. on Wednesday while the victims were reportedly digging inside the pit to extract minerals from the site.
The Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the incident to our correspondent by telephone on Thursday.
According to him, the victims were inside the mining site when a heap of sand suddenly collapsed on them, killing all seven miners.

Tengwong said efforts were immediately made to rescue the victims, but they were eventually found dead after rescuers succeeded in digging through the heap of sand.
He said, “We gathered that they were among several miners at the site, but the victims were actually right inside the mining pit when it caved in.
“Rescuers were immediately mobilised, but because the heap of sand was much, they were found dead when the diggers eventually found them.”
The incident has once again raised concerns over safety measures at mining sites in the state, particularly the dangers faced by miners operating in unstable pits.
