Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have rescued seven kidnap victims during a raid on a suspected terrorist enclave in Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State.
In a Tuesday statement, Acting Media Information Officer of OPWS, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu said the operation was conducted on Monday following credible intelligence.
The military spokesman said the coordinated operation involved troops of OPWS, the Nigerian Police Force, and local vigilantes.
It targeted areas around Amla-Icho, Ogobia and Anpekchi communities in Ohimini LGA where suspected kidnappers were reported to be operating.
According to OPWS, “On sighting troops approach, the suspected kidnappers fled into the surrounding terrain, abandoning their victims in the process.”

The troops secured the area and “successfully rescued seven kidnapped victims, bringing them out of harm’s way.”
A vehicle linked to the criminal operation was also recovered and handed over to the Nigerian Police Force for further investigation.
Operation Whirl Stroke commended the troops for their proactiveness, courage and swift response which led to the safe recovery of the victims.
The OPWS also appreciated the Nigerian Police and local vigilantes “for their cooperation and valuable support throughout the operation.”
OPWS further urged members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies, noting that security is a collective responsibility.
Operation Whirl Stroke is the Joint Task Force responsible for internal security operations in Benue, Nasarawa, and parts of Taraba States.
