A 67-year-old widow, Kaneng Davou, who lost her aged husband during the crises in Riyom local government area of Plateau State was among 80 widows and orphans who benefited from the employment scheme of Hon. Simon Mwadkwon, member representing Barkin-Ladi/Riyom federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
Kaneng, who is also a physically challenged, said the donation was the first of it’s kind since she lost her husband during a midnight attack in 2013.
Most of the widows who received sawing and granding machines expressed gratitude to Mrs. Diana, wife of Hon Simon Mwankwon, who initiated the thoughtful idea aimed at alleviating the suffering of widows, orphans and less privileged.
Hon. Mwadkwon who presented the materials yesterday, said the efforts is to accomplish the biblical injunction which mandated the privilege to take care of widows and orphans in the society.
“This presentation is in fulfilment of the Biblical scripture that mandated us to take care of the widows, the orphans and the physically challenged in the society.
“We are starting our empowerment with this category of people because they are most affected by the violence that has bedeviled Riyom/Barkin-Ladi Constituency which has claimed several lives. Most of the women here lost their husbands and the children became orphans due to the violence and midnight attacks.
“The physically challenged here were not born like this, some of them got themselves into their present predicament as a result of their encounter during the violence and I feel it is imperative to alleviate their suffering particularly at this period of pandamic.”
Hon. Mwadkwon who lamented that Riyom/Barkin-Ladi Constituency has more widows and orphans in the state and possibly North Central Geopolitical due to massive invasion by bandits pray that the area should not witness crisis again.
Member representing Riyom in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Timothy Dantong urged the women not to sell the materials presenting to them but should use it to upgrade their daily economic live.
He described Hon. Mwankwon and his Wife, Diana as those who have sacrificed alot for the prosperity of widows, orphans and the less privileged in the society.
Dantong said the sacrifices Hon. Mwadkwon has made and his good intentions towards the less privileged will take him to his higher political career.
Mrs. Daina Mwadkwon, presented sawing machines and granding machiness to the widows encouraged them to continue to trust in God for their prosperity and upliftment.
Hon. Mwadkwon had presented 10 motorcycles for usage in the palace of traditional rulers in Barkin-Ladi, Riyom and Jos South Local Government areas of the state and two were presented for his constituency office in Riyom and Barkin-Ladi.
