Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike has unveiled plans to extend ultramodern bus terminals to Kuje, Bwari and Gwagwalada, as part of efforts to expand public transport and improve connectivity across the territory.
Wike, who disclosed this in his 2026 Independence Day message to FCT residents, said the proposed expansion would build on the bus terminals already constructed in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), with the aim of providing safer and more efficient transport services.
The minister said the initiative formed part of his administration’s broader infrastructure development agenda to transform Abuja into a world-class capital city, while ensuring that residents outside the city centre also benefit from government projects.
He said the administration had invested heavily in critical infrastructure, particularly roads and public transport, to address the challenges of urban expansion and improve access to communities across the territory.
“Ultramodern bus terminals have been built in the Abuja Municipal Area Council, and in the near future, they will be extended to other area councils such as Kuje, Bwari and Gwagwalada so as to ensure commuters in the FCT enjoy transport services that are both safe and secure,” he said.
Wike added that his administration had also undertaken extensive road rehabilitation and construction projects, extending infrastructure development from the city centre to remote rural communities.
According to him, the administration has provided modern roads equipped with drainage systems and solar-powered streetlights, which he said had helped address accessibility and security challenges in previously isolated settlements.
“This administration has completely transformed the road network of the FCT from the city centre to the remotest rural parts of the territory, providing world-class roads equipped with drainage and solar lighting, thereby putting an end to both inaccessibility and insecurity in far-flung settlements in the Federal Capital Territory,” he said.
The minister said the infrastructure projects were designed to ensure that the benefits of governance extended beyond Abuja’s urban centre to residents in satellite towns and rural communities.
He stressed that the administration remained committed to building a modern, inclusive and functional capital city where public services were accessible to all residents, irrespective of their location.

Wike also disclosed that the FCT Administration was improving access to healthcare and education across the six area councils, noting that the provision of quality social services remained central to the territory’s development.
He said the administration was equipping schools and revitalising primary healthcare centres to improve the welfare of residents and create better opportunities for children.
On security, the minister said the administration was working closely with security agencies to safeguard lives and property, adding that surveillance had been intensified, community policing strengthened and modern technology deployed to combat crime.
He urged residents to support the government’s development initiatives, remain law-abiding and protect public infrastructure from vandalism.
Wike, who described the FCT as a symbol of Nigeria’s unity, said Abuja’s diversity remained one of its defining characteristics, with Nigerians from different ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds living and working together.
He said the administration’s infrastructure drive was consistent with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, expressing optimism that ongoing reforms and development projects would contribute to the country’s long-term prosperity.
The minister also urged residents to participate in the forthcoming January 2027 general elections, describing them as an opportunity to elect leaders capable of sustaining and expanding the infrastructure development underway in the FCT.
He called for peaceful coexistence, unity and tolerance among residents, saying collective commitment was essential to building a capital city that could serve as a model for the African continent.
Wike congratulated residents on Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary and expressed appreciation for their continued support for the FCT Administration.
