An engineer, Oyama Osam Ntun, has unveiled plans to sponsor 60 indigent students from Cross River State to study engineering.

Ntun, who is the President of Patrick and Grace Osam Ntun Legacy Foundation and Chief Executive Officer of Acelabview Ltd, announced the scheme at the Ekuum Bass Cultural Festival in Abaragba, Ikom, with the theme “From Indigenous Knowledge to Future Innovation”.

He said the foundation currently sponsoring 12 students in the university, and will add 12 more with a target of 60 in five years.

“The greatest investment any society can make is in its people. This scheme is to ensure lack of funds does not kill the dreams of young people passionate about engineering,” Ntun said.

He added that the foundation, which has run for seven years, also runs a post-university training school to prepare young engineers for industry.

Ntun dismissed insinuations of political ambition, saying, “For now, I don’t have any ambition.”

Commending the gesture, Member representing Ikom 1 State Constituency, Hon. Samuel Neji Abang, said the intervention is worthy of emulation.
