Six opposition members of the House of Representatives, on Thursday, announced their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defection was witnessed by the Enugu State governor, Peter Mbah, the APC National Chairman and party stalwarts from Enugu State.
The defecting members, in their separate notices of defection to the House, which were read at plenary by the speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, cited an alleged leadership crisis in their former political parties asthe reason for their cross-carpeting.
The decampees consist of five PDP members from Enugu State, including Nnolim Nnaji, Dennis Agbo, Martins Oke, Chidi Obeta and Anayo Onwuegbu, and Daniel Asama, who was elected on the platform of the LP.
Nnaji, while briefing journalists on behalf of his colleagues, said their defection from the PDP was informed by their desire to align with Governor Peter Mbah’s vision of transforming the state and connecting it to national development.
According to him, “For too long, our dear Enugu State has remained in opposition, watching from the sidelines as others shaped the destiny of our nation and accessed opportunities that could have transformed our people’s lives. That era is over! We refuse to remain spectators when we can be key players in Nigeria’s progress.
“By aligning with the APC — the party steering national transformation — we are connecting our constituency to the heartbeat of national development. This alignment will bring more projects, more jobs, better infrastructure, and greater empowerment for our youths, women, and communities.
