A 55-year-old motorist narrowly escaped death after a moving train crushed his Honda car at the PWD railway crossing in Lagos on Friday morning.

The collision involved a train travelling towards Agege and the Honda car with registration number EKY 902 JT, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, said the driver was rescued unhurt by the agency’s operatives and security personnel who responded to the incident.

The impact left the car extensively damaged, but no casualty was recorded. The wreckage was subsequently removed from the tracks, allowing the train to continue its journey towards Agege.

However, traffic congestion persisted around the PWD axis after the collision, disrupting movement for motorists using the busy route.

Taofiq said the damaged vehicle was handed over to security personnel for further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the agency’s operatives and security personnel for their swift response and coordinated rescue effort.

He urged motorists to exercise caution at railway crossings and warned against attempting to cross the tracks when a train is approaching or already in motion.

Bakare-Oki stressed that obeying railway safety regulations and traffic instructions is essential to preventing avoidable collisions and protecting lives.
