The National Institute for Sports (NIS) will graduate 530 students at its 8th Convocation ceremony billed for Thursday, May 25, 2023.

The event billed for the Institute’s multipurpose hall inside the National Stadium Surulere, Lagos, will also witness a historic conferment of Fellowship of the National Institute for Sports (FNIS) award to distinguished Nigerians.

Director General of the NIS, Professor Olawale Moronkola, at a press briefing on Thursday disclosed that the Institute believes in setting standards and encouraging overall national development through sports.

According to Moronkola 407 students will be awarded certificates in Advanced Coaching, 54 Diplomas in Coaching, 44 in Higher Diploma Coaching, 3 Diplomas in Stadium Management 3, 20 Higher Diplomas in Sports Management, while 2 will get Higher Diplomas in Sports Marketing 2 graduands.

“This is the first time NIS will be convocating with a record number of 530 students made up of 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 sets.

We will also be honouring some eminent Nigerians with Fellowship of the National Institute for Sports (FNIS) for their contributions to sports development in the country,” Moronkola said.

Meanwhile, those to be honoured at the epoch-making 8th convocation includes the Minister of Youths and Sports Development Sunday Dare, former Green Eagles Captain Segun Odegbami (MON), business mogul Adebutu Kessignton (CON), Brila FM Chairman Larry Izamoje and businesswoman and sports philanthropist Mrs Modupe Lawale.

The last time the National Institute for Sports held its convocation was in 2018.
