The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has disclosed that it has recorded 5,281 road crashes which claimed 2,838 lives in the last 6 months.
It revealed the crashes involved 39,793 people, adding that 17,818 people were rescued within the same period.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, at a press conference yesterday in Abuja, said the figure represented an increase in crashes by 3.9% and a rise in fatalities by 2.2%.
Mohammed the briefing was to gauge the agency’s progress and recalibrate its operations for greater impact and outcome.
“It is also on record that during the same period, FRSC operatives arrested 290,887 traffic offenders for committing 319,798 offences.
“Meanwhile, 250,720 offenders were arrested and 271,895 offences recorded in 2024. This reflects a 16 per cent rise in arrests and a 14.9 per cent increase in offences booked,” he said.
According to him, the increase in the percentage of arrests and offences did not reflect FRSC as a weakened institution.
“On the contrary, it affirms that the Corps is more vigilant and responsive to ensuring safety through visible enforcement,” he noted.

In addition, he said that in the period under review, over 30 million passengers travelled maintaining that the Corps is up and doing to ensuring safety through visible enforcement.
