The Economic Freedom Assembly (EFA) has slammed a member of the House of Representatives, Billy Famous Osawaru (Edo State) and his purported 49 other colleagues, for opposing the removal of Farouk Ahmed, the chief executive of the Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

EFA National President, Pedro Osahon, and Secretary General, Isah Suleiman Kadiri, in a statement yesterday said the actions of the lawmakers demonstrated that they were working against the people’s interests.

Osahon said the insistence for Ahmed to remain in office was “against the dictates of common sense and the glaring failure, incompetence, and ineptitude” of the duo, who have “compounded the woes of the masses.”

He noted that the hardship, hunger, and anger in the land were “a result of the massive failure, corruption, and mismanagement being witnessed in the oil industry today.”

He suggested that instead of the lawmakers trying to attract the wrath of the masses, they should resign from representing their federal constituencies.

The statement read in part: “The recent declaration of support by a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Billy Famous Osawaru (Edo State) and his purported 49 other colleagues, for the Chief Executive of the Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed, is against the interests of the people and self-serving.

“The actions of Osawaru and his purported co-travellers demonstrate that they are working against the people’s interests while holding positions of honour within the National Assembly.

“How else can one explain their misguided support for them to remain in office despite the glaring failure, incompetence and ineptitude of him and his goons who have compounded the woes of the masses?”
