Five suspects have been arrested for open defecation in Lagos Island area of Lagos State.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab disclosed this in an X post on Saturday.

He disclosed that four suspects were arrested at Inner Marina, including one Felix, Daniel Victor Okon, Olamide Sodiq and Henry Eyen.

The fifth suspect, Quad Kareem, was nabbed at Ebute Ero.

SunOnline can report that Lagos State Government has intensified its efforts against open defecation.

On Thursday, Wahab told newsmen that the state government had arrested 275 persons across the state for engaging in open defecation despite the availability of 8,710 public toilets across the state.

He disclosed that the arrests were made between January 1 and March 5.

He warned the public against defecating in open spaces, noting that an open defecation task force has been set up by the state government to curb the practice.

“When people continue to engage in bad behaviour, the law must be enforced so they understand the consequences. There is no excuse for it,” Wahab said.
