49 bag first class as Uniosun graduates 2,851 students

The Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University, Prof. Odunayo Adebooye, on Wednesday, disclosed that 49 students would be graduating with first-class honours out of 2,851 degrees and diploma that would be awarded by the university this year.

Speaking at a press conference heralding the 15th convocation of the university at Osogbo main campus, Adebooye disclosed that 2,505 would be awarded first degrees; 01 postgraduate diploma; 283 Master Degrees and 62 Doctoral Degrees.

He added that 988 students are graduating with Second Class (Upper Division); 1,279 with Second Class (Lower Division); 178 with Third Class and 01 student with Pass.

Fielding questions from journalist, Prof. Adebooye disclosed that the N34billion worth of teaching hospital donated by the Pro-Chancellor, Folorunso Alakija, is completed and would be commissioned soon.

He disclosed that seven new projects including the Iconic Senate Building, funded with TETFund’s High Impact Intervention, have been completed and would be commissioned during this convocation.

Other projects to be commissioned, according to the university are: “The Faculty of Computing and Information Technology Building with furniture funded with TETFund’s Special Intervention; a Twin (500-500) Lecture Theatre Complex funded with TETFund’s Special Intervention; a 500-Capacity Lecture Theatre funded through TETFund’s Normal Intervention; entrepreneurship equipment funded with annual intervention; a 500-Capacity Lecture Theatre in Okuku Campus; and a 500-Capacity Lecture Theatre in Ifetedo Campus.

He maintained that the aim of the university is to be among the top 10 universities in Nigeria and within the top 20 in Africa in the next foreseeable future, saying “We are committed to providing a conducive learning environment, ensuring staff and students’ satisfaction, and leveraging modern technologies to achieve our vision.”

He appreciated Governor Ademola Nurudeen and Arc. Sonny Echono, for their consistent support, vision, and partnership, in transforming Uniosun into a global player in higher education delivery.

“To our esteemed colleagues in the media, your role in shaping public perception cannot be overstated. I call upon you to continue to project the positive strides of Uniosun as we work together to advance the frontiers of education and innovation in Osun State, Nigeria, and Africa,” Adebooye added.
