4 dead, 10 injured in Enugu auto crash

Four persons lost their lives on Tuesday evening in an auto crash that occurred along the Ugwuoyeama axis of Enugu-Onitsha expressway.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander, Enugu State Command, Mr Adeyemi Sokunbi, confirmed that incident attributed it to brake failure.

It was learnt that the accident happened between 6:45p.m. and 7p.m. on Tuesday and involved a kerosene-ledden truck and six other vehicles.

While two persons died instantly, two others died later at the hospital. Ten others sustained varying degrees of injuries were rushed to the National Orthopedic Hospital Enugu for treatment.

Sokunbi, noted that the dead victims were taken to Park Lane Hospital, Enugu; while some items, belonging to the victims were also recovered at the scene of the accident.

The sector commander said that on a follow-up on the victims hospitalized, two persons among the 10 persons rescued to the hospital were declared dead by doctors on duty in the hospital.

 

According to him, the kerosene-ledden truck lost its brake and rammed into other six vehicles, which included cars and a bus on the newly constructed section of the Enugu-Onitsha Federal Highway.
