35-year-old Kano woman dies in collapsed building

A 35-year-woman, Baralabe Tijjani, has been killed in Makwarari area of Kano State following the collapse of a   building she lived in.

 The tragic incident which was caused by days of sporadic rainfall, also injured her nine and 12-year-old children,   according to witnesses.

 Her husband, Tijjani Magaji, confirmed the loss and said the rain began on Thursday night and continued till Friday.  

Also confirming the story on Saturday, the Public Relations Officer, Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, said the one-storey building collapsed at about 9:30 am on Friday. 

“The building crushed three people, Balaraba Abba about 35-years-old and two children, Abdulnasir Jilani about 12-years old and Abdullahi Jilani about nine-years old. 

“With the efforts of the people around the area, all victims were rescued alive and taken to Murtala Muhammad  Specialist Hospital, Kano where Baralabe Tijjani eventually died,” he added. 

Sunday Sun checks revealed that a number of mud buildings in the state capital are collapsing lately due to days of rainfall in the state.
