A 33-year-old man, Monsuru Musa, has been arrested for allegedly impersonating his father, Musa Mohammed, an employee of the FCT Fire Service, during the ongoing FCT Civil Service promotion examination.
Monsuru was reportedly caught on Wednesday, the third day of the examination, while sitting for the test on behalf of his father at the examination centre located within the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) premises.
The development followed intensified security measures reportedly deployed at the instance of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to prevent examination malpractice and impersonation during the promotion exercise.
During interrogation, Monsuru reportedly told security personnel that his father was ill and had directed him to write the examination on his behalf.
He, however, claimed that his father was within the NOUN premises despite being too sick to sit for the examination.
The case took another turn when questions arose over the age of the senior Musa.
Asked how old his father was, Monsuru put his age at between 67 and 68 years.
His father, however, gave a different account, stating that he would turn 60 in February 2027.
Further interrogation reportedly revealed that Musa Mohammed completed his primary education in 1977 and secondary education in 1982.
The inconsistencies in the accounts further raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the alleged impersonation.
Both father and son were subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation after making statements to operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).
