33 ships laden with fuel, food headed for Lagos ports –NPA

Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA)

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has announced that 33 vessels carrying petroleum products, food items and other cargoes are scheduled to arrive at Lagos ports within the week.

In its latest “Daily Shipping Position,” the authority disclosed on Monday that the vessels are expected at Apapa, Tin-Can Island and Lekki Deep Sea Ports between Feb. 22 and Feb. 27.

According to the NPA, 17 of the incoming vessels are laden with containerised goods, while the remaining 16 ships are transporting bulk gas, diplomatic cargo, bulk urea, empty containers, crude oil, bulk clinker and blended stock.

The authority further revealed that seven ships and tankers have already arrived at the three ports and are awaiting berthing approvals. These vessels are carrying aviation fuel, petrol, containers and general cargoes.

On the discharge side, port operations remain active across the Lagos axis. The NPA stated that 17 vessels are currently offloading consignments at Tin-Can, Apapa and Lekki ports. The cargoes being discharged include bulk wheat, soya beans oil, bulk sugar, bulk urea, fresh fish, trucks, general cargo and containerised goods.

The steady inflow of fuel shipments is expected to bolster supply across the downstream petroleum market, while food imports such as wheat, sugar and fish could ease pressure in key consumer segments.

The shipping update underscores sustained cargo throughput at the Lagos ports, which handle the bulk of Nigeria’s seaborne trade and remain critical to the country’s supply chain stability.
