Provost of Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology (FCFMT), Victoria Island, Lagos State, Dr. Chuks Onuoha has said that the college just obtained full accreditation for all its courses since it was upgraded from a vocational skill centre to a college in 1992.

Dr. Chuks stated this yesterday at the matriculation ceremony of 2021 to 2022 students’ academic session held in Lagos, adding that since his assumption as the provost in 2019, he had the mandate to produce middle-level manpower in some departments and as such delivered.

“Within three years of our administration, the college can boast of the following additional seven programmes; National Diploma in Oceanography and Science, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Hydrology and Water Resources Management and Science Laboratory Technology, and Higher National Diploma in Marine Engineering and Nautical Science. This is the first time since 1969 that Marine Engineering and Nautical Science are having full accreditation by National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). All our programmes are now fully accredited. The college has also witnessed giant strides in the area of physical education.

“It is a thing of joy to us to have a full accreditation because we have been brain drained for a long time, most of our best students go to other countries to finish their education. But now, we can keep them here and they would, in turn, improve the standard of education in the country,” he stated.
