Three people have been killed and eight others injured in two separate attacks in Jos South and Bokkos Local Government Areas of Plateau State.
The attacks occurred on Sunday night, with two vigilantes killed and three others injured when suspected gunmen stormed their duty post in Mangor, Bokkos Local Government Area.
In the second incident, gunmen opened fire on a vehicle conveying traders returning from the Kara Bukuru Livestock Market in Jos South, killing one person and injuring seven others.
The victim was identified as Musa Abubakar.
The first attack occurred at about 11pm at Angwan Tsarki, a settlement in Mangor, Bokkos, where gunmen reportedly opened fire on members of a local neighbourhood watch group.
A resident of the community, Bitrus Simon, told newsmen that two of the vigilantes were killed while three others sustained injuries.
Simon described the attack as unfortunate and called for improved security measures to protect residents and other communities in the area.
Meanwhile, the Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the attack on traders returning from the Kara Bukuru Livestock Market.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, and made available to newsmen on Monday, the command said the incident occurred at about 4:30pm on Sunday when a vehicle conveying traders returning from Kara Market, Bukuru, came under attack.
The command said seven injured victims were taken to the Military Clinic, Rukuba Barracks, Jos, where they were receiving medical attention.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, CP Ayodeji Faniyan, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Investigations to take full charge of the investigation and ensure that the perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted.
“The Command strongly condemns this dastardly act and wishes the injured victims quick recovery,” the statement said.

The police added that tactical and anti-robbery teams had been mobilised to beef up security around the area, while intelligence gathering had been intensified to identify and arrest the perpetrators.
The command also advised residents to go about their lawful businesses and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
Also confirming the attack, the Plateau State chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) said the man killed in the incident was a Fulani herdsman.
MACBAN called on security agencies to investigate the attack thoroughly and bring those responsible to justice.
In a statement signed by its chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, the association described the incident as disturbing, saying the victims were returning from their lawful business activities when they were attacked.
Babayo said the attack represented “yet another attack against innocent herders who were peacefully returning from their lawful business activities.”
He urged the Nigeria Police Force, Operation Safe Haven, the Department of State Services and other security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
The MACBAN chairman recalled that five herders were killed on September 20, 2026, around Kassa in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area while returning from the same Kara Bukuru Livestock Market.
He also recalled that herders were attacked near the Conoil Filling Station in December last year while returning from the market.
Babayo said the recurrence of the attacks had created fear and insecurity among pastoralists and traders who depend on the market for their livelihoods.
He called on the Plateau State Government and security agencies to strengthen security along the Kara Bukuru market route and take decisive steps to prevent further attacks.
He stressed that no Nigerian should be attacked or killed because of his or her ethnic background or occupation.
Babayo also appealed to members of the association to remain calm, law-abiding and avoid any form of retaliation.
