Three pedestrians have been crushed to death while four others were gravely injured by a truck following a ghastly accident that occurred in Imawa town in Kura LGA of Kano State.
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, confirmed the accident in a statement by his Press Secretary, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa on Saturday, saying the accident caused widespread devastation in the community
He explained that the accident occurred shortly after the Friday Jumu’ah prayers, when a vehicle veered out of control and struck seven pedestrians.
“Sadly, three of the victims succumbed to their injuries, while the other four sustained varying degrees of injuries,” said the statement.
The governor expressed deep condolences to the families affected by this tragic event and emphasised the need for infrastructure improvement to prevent further loss of life.
Following the accident, the governor announced the construction of a bridge in the area, saying the facility would enhance road safety, ease traffic flow, and provide safe passage for both the pedestrians and motorists in the area.
He also explained that the bridge would mitigate the frequent accidents that had plagued the area, particularly along the busy Kano-Zaria expressway which had become too common.
“The Kano State Government remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens, and this project represents a significant step toward in achieving that goal,” the statement said.
