3 injured as bandits attack Kano community

Three persons were injured by gunshots when suspected bandits attacked Garun Mallam town in Garun Mallam Local Government, Kano State on Saturday.

The incident occurred during a foiled attempt to kidnap Alhaji Yusif Nadabo, the Sarkin Noman Kano.

State Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Kiyawa, confirmed the incident in a statement yesterday.

He identified those injured as Yusif Nasiru, Salisu Garba and Ibrahim Hassan.

According to him, the police, in collaboration with members of the community, engaged the attackers in a hot chase, forcing them to abandon the kidnap victim and fled.

“Consequently, the bandits abandoned the kidnapped victim and fled the scene. Yusif Nadabo was rescued unhurt,” the statement said.

The three injured victims were immediately rushed to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital alongside the rescued victim for medical attention.

The command said a manhunt had been launched for the fleeing suspects, while investigation into the incident had commenced.

Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the prompt response of police teams and appreciated residents of Garun Mallam and neighbouring communities, as well as members of the Vigilante and Neighbourhood Watch Corps, for their vigilance and cooperation. He urged residents to remain calm and continue providing credible information that could assist in arresting the fleeing suspects.

The commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
