More than 250 Chinese manufacturers are expected in Lagos next month for a trade exhibition aimed at connecting them with Nigerian importers, distributors and investors as trade between both countries continues to grow.

The China Commodities Expo Nigeria 2026 will hold from November 3 to 5 at the Landmark Event Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, under the theme, “Made in China. Made for Africa.”

The three-day exhibition is being organised by Brightway International Exhibition-China and is expected to provide a platform for Nigerian businesses to negotiate directly with manufacturers, explore supply agreements and pursue investment and production partnerships. The expo comes against the backdrop of a sharp increase in China-Nigeria trade. China’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, said bilateral trade reached about $18 billion in the first half of 2026, representing a 35 per cent increase compared with the same period in 2025.

Chinese imports from Nigeria also rose by about 80 per cent to $2.3 billion during the period, according to figures cited by the organisers and previously disclosed by the ambassador.

Despite the increase in Nigerian exports to China, the trade relationship remains heavily tilted towards Chinese exports to Nigeria, with Chinese goods accounting for the larger share of bilateral trade.

Chief Representative Officer of Brightway International Exhibition, Muheez Ojulari, said the expo was designed to help bridge the gap between Chinese manufacturing capacity and Africa’s growing consumer and industrial demand.

He said Nigerian buyers would have the opportunity to engage directly with manufacturers, potentially reducing the layers of intermediaries involved in international sourcing.

For Chinese manufacturers, he said, the exhibition would provide access to Nigerian distributors, importers and business decision-makers who could help expand their reach into Nigeria and the wider West African market.

A wide range of products and industries will be represented at the exhibition, including agricultural and construction machinery, solar and photovoltaic equipment, electrical products, hardware, building materials, auto parts and household appliances.

Other sectors expected at the expo include textiles, beauty products, food, plastics, packaging equipment and other consumer goods.

The organisers said the event would go beyond the traditional import-export relationship between China and Nigeria, with a focus on investment, technology transfer, local production and value addition.

They are also targeting small and medium-sized enterprises, established importers, contractors, procurement teams and chambers of commerce.

The organisers said the objective was to create opportunities for Nigerian businesses to secure reliable suppliers while enabling Chinese companies to better understand the Nigerian and wider African markets.

The emphasis on local production and technology transfer also reflects growing efforts to deepen economic ties beyond the supply of finished goods.

According to the organisers, Chinese companies participating in the expo are expected to explore opportunities for partnerships with Nigerian businesses, including distribution arrangements, investment in local manufacturing and other forms of industrial cooperation.

The exhibition is therefore expected to serve as both a marketplace and a business-matching platform, bringing manufacturers and potential Nigerian partners together for direct discussions.

With bilateral trade already reaching about $18 billion in the first half of the year, the organisers believe the expo could help translate the growing trade relationship into more business partnerships, investment and manufacturing opportunities in Nigeria.
