The police in Borno have arrested 25 suspects for alleged drug dealings and illicit drug abuse in parts of the state.

Spokesman of the Borno Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Nahum Daso, made the disclosure at a press briefing, yesterday, the suspects were arrested during raids and search of some spots in Maiduguri, the state capital.

“The command conducted simultaneous stop-and-search and raids operations at various locations within the metropolitan city and succeeded in arresting 21 suspects in possession of drugs, illicit substances and dangerous weapons,” the police spokesman announced.

Among the illicit drugs seized, according to the police, include codeine syrup, stimulant solution, tramadol, wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, pieces of D5 tablets, pieces of exol tablet, among others. Nahum said others were also arrested for drug peddling, while two others allegedly offered N400,000 to the police to cover up their unlawful act.

“The Divisional Police Officer rejected the money and arrested two suspects and transferred the two suspects to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation,” he explained.

He assured of the command’s commitment to sustain the tempo of flushing out criminals through “proactive measures.”
