A 24-year-old divorcee, Rahma Sulieman, has been arrested by the police in Kano for masterminding the abduction of her six-year-old daughter, Hafsat Kabiru.

Speaking during a press conference at the Bompai Police headquarters in Kano, the State Police Commissioner, Usaini Gumel, said the suspect and her accomplices had demanded the sum of N3 Million ransom from the father of the girl, one Kabiru Shehu of Sharada Quarters in the metropolis.

He said the victim was traced and rescued in Madobi Local Government Area adding that, “The divorced wife was arrested and had confessed to have taken her daughter to the hideout and demanded ransom”

In her response, the suspect regretted her action but said her ex- husband, Kabiru Shehu, divorced her without giving her any money for herself or for the upkeep of their little daughter. In the meantime, the police have paraded no fewer than 20 other suspects arrested for their involvement in kidnapping in different parts of the state. They included Ado Bala, 28, Yanusa Naji, 28, Shaibu Haruna, 21, all of Ruwan Kayan vollage in Rano Local Government of the state. The suspects were alleged to have invaded the residence of one Yusuf Garba in the area, kidnapped him , took away some money and made away with his phone.

The police said that following an on-the-spot search, a locally made AK-47 rifle and a cutlass were recovered from them, adding that they admitted to the commission of the crime and confessed their involvement in a number of kidnappings and armed robberies that were executed in Rano, Tudun Wada and Kibya councils of the state.
