Nigerian  Correctional Service (NCS) bulding

From Isaac Anumihe, Abuja

The Nigerian  Correctional Service (NCS) has said that a 23-year-old  Ayomide Adeleye who was remanded at the Maximum Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kirikiri, Lagos, for offence of kidnapping and murder, is still in the custody of the service.

This is against a report alleging that he had escaped from the custody.

However, the service, stated, that there was an inmate that has a similar name that was admitted at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kirikiri, Lagos, on March 6,  2024, upon a warrant issued by Magistrate’s Court 15A Ogba, Lagos, for the offence of theft.

The inmate, a statement, noted, was discharged on April 4, 2024 ,by the order of the court on the mentioned date.

“On the said date,  he (Ayomide) was produced in court, the presiding magistrate ordered that he remains  in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service pending advice by the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP). The service wishes to categorically state that the said inmate is still in the custody of the MSCC Kirikiri, Lagos, as ordered by the court, against the information being peddled by the mischievous people.

“The service wishes to request that the general public should discountenance the said report as it is written by arm-chair reporters who could have done due diligence by confirming their information before publication” Deputy Controller of Corrections and Public Relations Officer of

Nigerian Correctional Service, Umar Abubakar, said.

Earlier, the  Lagos State Police Command had confirmed that Ayomide Adeleye, who confessed of  killing Christianah Idowu, his friend and neighbour, had been charged with murder and remains in custody for the offence.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer,  Benjamin Hundeyin, in response to reports suggesting that Adeleye was not being held in any Lagos correctional facility made the clarification, yesterday that he is still in custody of NCS.
