Twenty-two members of the Kano State House of Assembly have renounced their membership of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Their resignation followed that of the state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, who announced his resignation from the party on Friday evening.

A statement issued at the weekend by the Chief Press Secretary of the Kano State House of Assembly, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, confirmed the resignations.

He said that members of the Assembly who resigned from the NNPP in solidarity with the governor include the Speaker, Jibril Ismail Falgore (Rogo), the Deputy Speaker, Muhammad Bello Butu Butu (Tofa/Rimin Gado),

the Majority Leader, Hon Lawan Hussain (Dala), the Deputy Majority Leader, Garba Shehu Fammar (Kibiya) and the Chief Whip, Muddasir Ibrahim Zawachiki (Kumbotso).

Others are the Majority Whip, Zakariyya Abdullahi Nuhu (Gabasawa), Lawal Tini (Ajingi) and Musa Tahir Haruna (Albasu).

Meanwhile, the political situation in the state has remained tense as members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party in Kano State insist that the governor has ‘stolen’ their man.
