Traditional rulers in the Yewa area of Ogun State, have rejected the governorship aspiration of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Ladi Adebutu, maintaining that nothing will influence their political stance ahead of the 2027 elections.
This collective position was taken during a meeting held on Friday, in Ilaro between the PDP governorship candidate and the Yewa traditional council, chaired by the Olu of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle.
It was gathered that the monarchs staged a walkout during the meeting, insisting they would not compromise on their preferred choice for the 2027 Ogun State governorship race.
A traditional ruler, who attended the meeting, spoke on the condition of anonymity, stating that stakeholders in Yewa remain united behind Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as their preferred choice for the state’s top job.
The monarchs emphasised that it is time for the Ogun West Senatorial District to break its decades-long political drought.
“We have been politically sidelined for several decades in Ogun State. We are the only senatorial district that has never produced a governor. This is our best opportunity, and we are not ready to back down on our resolve to see Ogun West lead the state,” the monarch said.
