The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has questioned the credibility of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, saying his past dealings with the former presidential candidate have left him unable to trust his words.
Wike made the remarks on Tuesday during the unveiling of the Rainbow Coalition’s candidates in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he criticised Atiku, who is seeking the presidency under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Recalling their political relationship, Wike said he had contested against Atiku during the 2022 presidential primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and also supported his presidential ambition financially in 2019.
“I pray you never know him,” Wike said.
He added, “I ran with him in the 2022 presidential primaries. In 2019, I was one of the biggest sponsors for that presidential election. He’s not a man that you can go to the bank with his words.”
Wike did not elaborate on the specific incidents behind his criticism during the remarks.
The comments came as the FCT minister rallied political leaders and candidates under the Rainbow Coalition to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
At the event, Wike urged PDP members across the country to back Tinubu, despite their party affiliation, and described the coalition as a platform for political cooperation.
He also criticised opposition figures as part of his address to supporters in Rivers State.
Atiku, a former vice-president, is associated with the ADC in the opposition’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.
