Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT, Minister Nyesom Wike has urged Rivers State residents to deliver massive votes for President Bola Tinubu in 2027, promising that strong electoral support could attract more federal appointments and infrastructure projects to the state.
Wike spoke on Monday in Port Harcourt during a meeting with supporters of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and youth leaders aligned with the governor, where he called for reconciliation and a united front behind Tinubu’s second-term bid.
“All I want to hear in this state is Tinubu and nothing but Tinubu. If we play the role we are playing now, and we are one of the first three states that get the highest number of votes, we will get more of the appointments,” he said.
The minister said Rivers had benefited from high-profile federal appointments under Tinubu and cited projects, including the Bonny road, as evidence of the administration’s commitment to the state.
He urged aggrieved party members to put past differences behind them, adding that reconciliation efforts were under way to unite rival political camps ahead of the 2027 elections.
“We are talking for survival and growth,” Wike said, urging grassroots youth leaders to return to their local government areas and prepare for campaign activities.
“I am not going to be governor again; this is for your own interest. I want this state to grow. I want this state to play an important role in the politics of Nigeria,” he added.
Earlier, former Port Harcourt Mayor, Ezebunwo Ichemati, speaking for Fubara’s supporters, pledged their support for Wike and the Rainbow Coalition, including its plan to mobilise votes for Tinubu.
Ichemati said Fubara was aware of and supported the meeting, describing it as a step towards resolving the political rift between the governor’s camp and Wike’s supporters.
He said grassroots youths who had been involved in the crisis would now work together to strengthen the coalition ahead of the elections.
“What you see here today will transform into a force that will deliver,” he said.
Ichemati also declared support for Kingsley Chinda as the coalition’s governorship choice.
