Ahead of next year’s elections, the lawmaker representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi, has predicted the electoral victory of President Bola Tinubu and Ebonyi State governor, Francis Nwifuru.
Nwaebonyi said his predictions stemmed from the fact since Nigeria’s independence in 1960, it was the first time an indigene of Ebonyi State and an Igbo man, David Umahi, was appointed Minister of Works.
The Senate Deputy Chief Whip, who spoke at the grand endorsement of President Tinubu and Nwifuru, by Ebonyi community in the FCT, yesterday in Abuja, said the performance of Umahi had endeared him to the people and by extension President Tinubu.
He said: “We are determined to deliver a bloc vote for the APC. Since 1960, it is the first time an Igbo man and an Ebonyi indigene has been appointed Minister of Works.
“Nigerians saw what David Umahi achieved as Governor of Ebonyi State and what he is doing today as Minister of Works.
“Before now, travelling from Enugu to Aba and Port Harcourt could take up to six hours, but under President Bola Tinubu and Minister Umahi, the road is being dualised and transformed. The impact of this administration is visible across the South-East and other parts of the country.”
The senator said he moved the motion endorsing President Tinubu and Governor Nwifuru for another term in office, citing their commitment to infrastructure development and good governance.
The Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Henry Nduka Awuregu, further explained that the decision was based on the leaders’ achievements and their commitment to national and state development.
Awuregu, who is also the Federal Commissioner representing Ebonyi State at the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), described the gathering as a demonstration of the group’s confidence in the leadership of President Tinubu and Governor Nwifuru.
He commended President Tinubu for implementing what he called “bold economic reforms,” including the removal of fuel subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange market, saying the measures had laid the foundation for long-term economic growth.
According to him, the administration has recorded improvements in investor confidence, growth in external reserves, increased oil production, expansion of infrastructure projects, reforms in the power sector, and support for education through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
Awuregu also praised the Federal Government’s investments in roads, housing, agriculture and security, arguing that the policies had positioned the country for sustainable development.
He lauded Governor Nwifuru’s administration for what he described as “significant progress under the People’s Charter of Needs agenda.”
The planning committee chairman further cited ongoing road construction, urban renewal projects, youth and women empowerment programmes, payment of gratuities, community peace initiatives and industrial development as evidence of the governor’s performance.
He said Governor Nwifuru had demonstrated commitment to improving the welfare of Ebonyi people through infrastructure development, agricultural programmes, security initiatives and employment opportunities for young people.
Awuregu maintained that the endorsement of both leaders was based on “performance, vision and proven capacity,” urging members of the FON Youth Movement and the Ebonyi community to mobilise support for President Tinubu and Governor Nwifuru ahead of the next general elections.
