Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso has expressed confidence that a potential Peter Obi-Kwankwaso presidential ticket would defeat other contenders in the 2027 election.
Kwankwaso, who is the vice-presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress, said the proposed alliance brings together credibility, political experience and strong support bases from different parts of the country.
He made the statement on Sunday while featuring on the News Agency of Nigeria Personality Interview Series in Abuja.
According to him, the partnership between Obi, a former Anambra State governor, and himself would provide a balanced ticket capable of bridging Nigeria’s regional and religious divisions.
Kwankwaso said Obi commands significant support in the South, while his political influence in the North would give the alliance a broad national reach.
“Nobody, no ticket, can beat our own in terms of credibility, capacity and, of course, love for the country,” he said.
He added that the duo also had a strong understanding of the difficulties faced by ordinary Nigerians, particularly those struggling with poverty.

“Even in terms of empathy for the poor who are suffering across the country today, no other contender can match us,” Kwankwaso said.
The former governor said his experience during the 2023 presidential election also gave him an opportunity to understand Obi better and strengthened his belief that both politicians could work together.
Kwankwaso argued that Nigeria urgently needed a change in leadership, citing insecurity, poverty, poor infrastructure and difficulties confronting farmers as major challenges.
He also criticised the impact of the fuel subsidy removal, saying the policy had not translated into improved living conditions for Nigerians, while farmers were being affected by the influx of cheap imported food.
According to him, the alliance involving the Kwankwasiyya Movement, the National Democratic Congress and Obi’s supporters is aimed at achieving democratic change similar to the political transition witnessed in 2015.
He said the partnership was founded on fairness, justice and equity, with both leaders committed to improving the welfare of Nigerians.
Kwankwaso also explained that his acceptance of the vice-presidential slot was motivated by national service rather than the attraction of occupying the number two position.
