African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore has explained why he rejected an invitation to the opposition summit held in Ibadan ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing the gathering as an attempt to recycle failed political actors under a new label.

Sowore said he declined the invitation to the Ibadan summit because many of the individuals involved, whom he accused of presiding over years of stagnation, corruption, and systemic decay, cannot suddenly rebrand themselves as champions of progress or defenders of the people.

“There is no need to pretend that the same men (and a few women) who held Nigeria to ransom for years, presiding over stagnation, corruption, and systemic decay, can suddenly reinvent themselves as champions of progress or defenders of the people,” Sowore said.

He argued that Nigerians are not suffering from “amnesia,” insisting that the same political figures responsible for the country’s challenges should not be presented as a fresh alternative.

The AAC presidential candidate maintained that his party would not participate in what he called a political charade aimed at rebranding past leaders under the guise of opposition politics.

“Not all Nigerians are suffering from amnesia,” he said.

According to him, the African Action Congress (AAC) remains committed to offering a new political direction built on integrity, accountability, and genuine transformation.

“For the avoidance of doubt, our revolutionary party, the African Action Congress (@aacparty ), will not be part of any charade designed to recycle failed political actors under the guise of “opposition.” Instead, we are committed to presenting a formidable, people-driven alternative, one rooted in integrity, accountability, and genuine transformation,” he added.

Sowore added that the party will mobilise Nigerians nationwide to support a credible alternative that rejects both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and other opposition blocs he described as opportunistic.

“We will mobilize Nigerians across the country to rally behind a credible vision that rejects the decadence and deception represented by both the @OfficialAPCNg and their opportunistic counterparts in ADC, PDP, Labour Party and elsewhere,” he said.

He stressed that Nigeria’s problems cannot be solved by reshuffling the same political actors, but by a complete break from the existing political order.

“Nigeria does not need a rearrangement of the same broken pieces; it needs a complete break from the past,” he concluded.
