•Says Tinubu‘ll be one-term president
From Ndubuisi Orji, Abuja
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said it is the only party that can defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential contest.
The National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, stated this, at a press briefing in Abuja, yesterday. Ologunagba, who stated that President Bola Tinubu will be a one term president, said no patriotic Nigerian will cast a vote for the APC in the 2027 polls.
According to him, the President Tinubu administration has performed woefully while killings have become a regular occurrence.
The opposition spokesman, who explained that the PDP is uniting its members ahead of the next general elections, said the party would hold its 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting between July 23rd to 25th.
According to him, the NEC will receive briefing from the Zoning and Convention Planning Committees, as well as ratify the results of state congresses, conducted recently.
The PDP prior to its 100th NEC meeting was plagued by crises over who is the rightful occupant of the national secretary position. The crisis, which was resolved last month, had polarised party organs and crippled activities at the national secretariat, Wadata Plaza while it lasted.
Also, in recent times, there have been defections of top PDP members, including the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevberi and his Akwa Ibom counterpart, Umo Eno to the APC alongside their supporters.
Similarly, former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, as well as former Senate President, David Mark, has also resigned from the PDP and joined the Action Democratic Congress (ADC).
Atiku, Mark and some other PDP leaders, prior to the unveiling of the ADC as the preferred platform by some opposition leaders, for the 2027 polls, after a meeting at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, said the PDP has been diminished. “The inability of PDP leadership to lead the party by its Constitution, rules and regulations led it into a chaotic and undisciplined Party.
“The vision of the founding fathers for which the Party was established and the role it played in restoring Nigeria as stable and united country and key player on the regional, continental, and global stage has been washed away just as our roles as the leader of the black race is now overtaken by smaller and less endowed countries.”

Nonetheless, Ologunagba stated that while the party is concerned about the defection, the PDP still remains strong as its strength lies with the people.
“On the state of our party, one thing is clear, the PDP is very strong. We have started the process of recalibrating, coming together in unity because the strength of this party is in the people across the country, in the local areas. So, we are focused and working towards having a very successful national convention.
“In the euphoria of the last couple of days, we have been recording some defections, our party is organic and very formidable. It is important to make it clear that it is the people that truly make a party.
“Yes, leaders are important, individuals are very critical because there can’t be leaders without followers. So, those followers are there. What is good for the party is the fact that the people are not defecting.”
Ologunagba, who described President Tinubu as a bad market, noted that despite the euphoria by the APC, the ruling party would be roundly defeated in 2027.
“PDP is the only party that can unseat APC and it’s clear and it’s not just me saying it. It’s empirical evidence that you can find; because we have the support, we have the base, we are organic. We have this national strength, there is no community in Nigeria that you don’t have a PDP presence.”
The opposition spokesman noted that the outcome of the recent local government elections in Lagos State where six percent of registered voters participated is a pointer to the fate that awaits the APC in 2027.
“Forget the propaganda, forget the noise-making, if indeed, APC is as strong as they claim it is, then you won’t find the outcome in Lagos, where there’s the shabby local government election, where one of their leaders had just said, the ‘people didn’t vote for us.’ That’s APC in Lagos, he said, ‘the people didn’t vote for us.’
“This is a silent vote of no confidence. It is a leader of the APC saying that about what happened in Lagos. And the turned out there was six percent of registered voters, which means APC is rejected at that point. The people of Lagos said no by silence. In 2027, they will say it loud by voting, and they will vote APC out.
“So, with all of these litany of frustration, policy summersault, disregard for people’s lives and then above all, of insecurity and the hopelessness and the helplessness that the APC government under Tinubu has shown, Tinubu is a bad market and a one-time president.”
