•Says no time for frivolities
The new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Segun Aina, has affirmed his commitment towards conducting a seamless and less traumatic registration for the 2027 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
To achieve this, the Registrar said plans are in top gear to introduce a JAMB Pre-registration Mobile Registration App to make UTME Registration less time-consuming and user-friendly. The Registrar dropped this hint at his inaugural meeting with the management of the Board held on Monday, 3rd August 2026.
He restated his avowed commitment to reduce the trauma being experienced by candidates as they register and sit their UTME, noting that the problem may not be unconnected with the errors of communications, among other problems.
When fully launched the mobile preregistration app will provide fast signups, offline data collection, and instant validation adding that users can sign up anywhere using their phones.
Additionally, Pror Aina disclosed that the App has been configured with phone cameras to read IDs or tickets faster, with built-in checks to stop wrong data entry or any forms of irregularities by candidates.
There is no doubt that the success of this APP would make registration less stressful, less cumbersome, adaptable, quick, flexible and easy to use.
He stated that the proposed pre-registration regime and processes has been designed in tandem with international standards and will eliminate rancourous registration exercise hitherto experienced by UTME candidates.
The App, when operational, will facilitate profile management, result notification and support allowing candidates to pre-register from the comfort of their homes while the main registration exercise at accredited CBT centres, which had hitherto taken up to 20 minutes, is expected to be concluded within two to three minutes going forward.

Meanwhile, addressing management staff of the Board in his inaugural meeting with them, declared that he had no time for frivolities or mundane issues that could undermine his robust agenda for the Board.
He reiterated his commitment to remain focused and steadfast to the ideals of the founding fathers of the examination body.
In his words: “I look forward to your objective and proactive input, your continued hard work, capable of taking JAMB to the next level.”
He disclosed that his approach to governance is business-like on account of his background in business as he launched his first venture in 2010.
He added that his doors are open for credible and practical advice but would not welcome frivolities. He also revealed that he is not fond of gossip as one’s opinions could be objective or subjective, hence for him, competence is what actually matters.
Consequently, he said he would not be a bully or a know-all ruler adding that being human, he might have his flaws, preferences or prejudices but he believes that as a leader he would not allow such to becloud his professional judgement.
Furthermore, the registrar stated that his mandate would witness not only the consolidation of his predecessors’ laudable achievements, he would be taking the Board to the next level.
He similarly noted that although he is relatively youthful in age, he has come equipped with vast experience in technology, academic and business.
