2027: Tricycle operators pledge 50m votes for Tinubu, Shettima

Operators of tricycles under the United Keke and Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria have declared support for President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, saying their over 50 million members will vote for them in the 2027 presidential election.

The group made its position known at a stakeholders’ engagement in Abuja organised in support of the Tinubu-Shettima 2027 ticket.

The event was attended by the Director-General of the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency (NGSA), Prof. Olusegun Omoniyi Ige, and Executive Secretary, National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Biodun Ajiboye.

The association said its membership strength, drawn from keke and motorcycle operators across the country, gives it a significant grassroots presence capable of mobilising support for the administration.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Transportation and Mobility, Adetokunbo Ademola Ade-John, said the administration’s economic reforms were designed to stimulate growth, create opportunities and improve the standard of living of Nigerians.

Ade-John assured the operators of President Tinubu’s commitment to initiatives aimed at transforming the transport sector, including plans to support operators with CNG-powered and electric tricycles.

He said the initiative would help modernise commercial transportation, reduce operating costs and promote cleaner and more sustainable mobility.

He also called on state governments and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to provide designated parks for keke and motorcycle operators to enable them to operate in an orderly manner and harmoniously alongside other road transport operators.

Also speaking, the President of the United Keke Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria and Partners, Aisha Mousa Lawal, said ongoing infrastructure development was opening up new opportunities and stimulating economic activities at the grassroots.

The National President of the association, John Obozokhai, called on state governors to ensure that public resources were deployed for the benefit of citizens.

The groups also urged their members to obtain and secure their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate actively in the 2027 elections, stressing that their over 50 million members would mobilise and vote massively for President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima.
