Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has said President Bola Tinubu would be a better option than former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in a potential 2027 presidential race.
Speaking during an interview on Channels TV Politics Today, Lawal said neither of the two leading political figures represents an ideal choice in his view, but argued that a comparative assessment still favours the incumbent president.

He warned that Nigeria could face greater challenges if Atiku were elected president, insisting that the consequences would be worse than the current situation.
According to him, “If it must be a choice between Atiku and Bola Tinubu, I believe Tinubu’s presidency, as bad as it is now on a comparative level, would be better than what Atiku would plunge us into.”
Lawal also said he sees “danger” in the prospect of an Atiku presidency, urging Nigerians to carefully consider their choices ahead of the 2027 elections.
