The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Sokoto State, Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, has challenged Governor Ahmed Aliyu of the APC to disclose the total revenue received by his administration before asking opposition parties to present their records of achievements ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Dan’iya, who demanded a breakdown of the state’s revenue and expenditure from May 2023 to September 2026, said the people of Sokoto deserved to know how much the government had received, how the funds had been spent and what tangible benefits they had delivered.
The challenge followed the governor’s reported call on opposition parties to focus their campaigns on their achievements rather than resort to personal attacks against political opponents.
Dan’iya said he supported issue-based political campaigns but insisted that the government must first demonstrate transparency in the management of public funds.
“Governor Aliyu should tell the people of Sokoto how much his government has received from the Federation Account from May 2023 to September 2026, how much it has generated internally, and how much has been spent.
“Tell us how much you have received before asking the people to judge what you have done with it.”
The ADC candidate also demanded a detailed account of funds allocated to the state’s 23 local government areas during the same period, including their monthly Federation Account allocations, internally generated revenue, statutory deductions and expenditure on public services.
He said that making the figures public, alongside project costs, contractors’ details, implementation timelines and evidence of completion, would enable residents to assess the performance of the state and local governments on the basis of verifiable records rather than political claims.
Dan’iya further questioned whether the administration’s projects under its Nine-Point Smart Agenda had translated into sufficient improvements in the lives of residents, pointing to concerns over insecurity, education, healthcare, water supply, workers’ welfare, employment and public infrastructure.
He called for independent scrutiny of projects whose costs, implementation status or public benefits had been questioned, saying allegations of inflated costs, incomplete work or expenditure without corresponding results should be examined through documentary evidence and the appropriate accountability institutions.

According to him, a credible assessment of government performance should go beyond announcing projects, awarding contracts or presenting aggregate figures.
“The government should provide a clear comparison of revenue received, expenditure incurred, projects completed, those still under construction and the services delivered to communities.”
The ADC candidate maintained that the same standard of accountability should apply to the state government and all 23 local government councils, stressing that public resources belonged to the people and should be accounted for in a manner that allowed independent verification.
Dan’iya said the debate ahead of the 2027 elections should be based on records that citizens, journalists, auditors and relevant public institutions could independently examine.
“The people of Sokoto are entitled to ask simple questions: How much money came in? Where did it go? Which projects were completed? What changed in the lives of the people? Before telling the opposition to present its record, tell the people how much you received and show them the evidence of what you delivered,” he said.
The exchange comes as political parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Governor Aliyu has reportedly said the All Progressives Congress (APC) would campaign for re-election on the strength of projects and development initiatives executed by his administration, rather than engage in personal attacks against political opponents.
His position places the administration’s record at the centre of the emerging political contest, with Dan’iya challenging it to support its claims with a transparent account of public revenue and expenditure.
