The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State, Gabriel Pidomson, has declared that Rivers people will reject any attempt to impose a governor on them in 2027.

Pidomson said the next election will not be a contest between individuals or political blocs, but a referendum on the future of the state.

“The 2027 election is not just between Pidomson and the others. It is going to be Rivers people versus others,” he declared.

In a blistering attack on the political establishment, Pidomson said Rivers State belongs to all its people and cannot be treated as personal property.

“Rivers State is nobody’s private estate. It is our common patrimony,” he said.

He also dismissed the growing influence of the Rainbow Coalition led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, boasting that the ADC would demystify the group at the polls.

“On the so-called Rainbow Coalition, well, they have the right to boast everywhere. I can assure you that the real people are not with them. And we shall eclipse their rainbow next year,” he said.

The ADC candidate accused the camp of former governor and FCT minister Wike of dominating the state without delivering commensurate federal benefits.

“As a minister of the FCT, tell me one project that Nyesom Wike has brought to the state,” he queried, alleging that appointments facilitated by the minister had largely benefited his political associates.

Pidomson said his consultations across the state showed that Rivers people are “morally angry” and desire a government that is responsive and responsible.

He said his 10-point agenda is centred on the welfare of the people, insisting that the will of the electorate will prevail.

“They cannot rig us out,” he said.

He warned against electoral manipulation, saying the ADC would deploy agents to all polling units to monitor voting and collation.

“The votes of the people will count. The vote will be protected. No amount of rigging will prevail in the state,” he vowed.

Pidomson condemned alleged restrictions on political activities by some local government chairmen and called on the Inspector-General of Police, the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, the Department of State Services and other security agencies to protect constitutional rights.

He also alleged that members of the ruling APC had disrupted some ADC activities and urged security agencies to investigate and prosecute culprits.

Reacting to reported opposition from some Ogoni leaders, Pidomson dismissed them as beneficiaries of the current system who cannot sway the electorate.

He urged voters to collect any inducement offered during the campaign but vote their conscience.

“They will come to bribe you with money, collect it but vote for ADC,” he said, adding: “I am intellectually, emotionally and physically prepared” for Brick House, having prepared since 2014.
