From Uchenna Inya, Abakaliki
The member representing Ohaozara, Onicha, and Ivo Federal Constituency, Ebonyi State, in the House of Representatives, Hon. Kama Nkemkanma, has called for peace and issue-based political engagement across his constituency, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kama spoke in Abakaliki, the state capital, during a consultation meeting with the stakeholders and political leaders of Onicha Local Government Area on his intention to run for a second term in office.
The federal lawmaker said his bid to return for a second term is in the hands of God, the stakeholders of the constituency, and the governor of the state.
“I am a man under authority. When you are under authority, you don’t just move; you get clearance. That is why I am here, today, to consult my people,” he said.
He stressed that his visit was not to campaign or reel out achievements, but to appreciate constituents for their past support and formally inform them of his intention to contest again.
“I came to appreciate you for what you did for me and to inform you that I will be contesting again. When the time comes, we will present our records,” Nkemkanma added.
He emphasised the need for unity and civility in the political space, cautioning against unnecessary tension and rivalry.
“There is no need for conflict or bickering. Power belongs to God, and He gives it to whom He wills. Let us focus on peace and issue-based engagement,” he said.

On development efforts, Nkemkanma disclosed that ongoing projects in the constituency were still being executed under the 2024 budget cycle, assuring constituents that more interventions would follow with subsequent budgets.
“Everything we have done so far is under the 2024 budget. As new budget cycles come in, we will continue to expand on what we are doing,” he said.
Nkemkanma expressed confidence in the governor’s leadership, describing him as a strategic and thoughtful leader capable of making the right political decisions.
“Our governor is a very sensible man, he doesn’t talk much, he behaves as if he doesn’t know anything but he knows much. So, I am sure he knows the right person, the right thing to do; he will try to make sure that Ebonyi keeps soaring and, by God’s grace, I am sure there won’t be any mistake.
“APC is a party that has a structure and the governor is the leader of the state, and he will sit down to look at what is best for the state and the people, and I am sure he will take the right decision. So, I am very confident that the right thing will be done”, he said.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Onicha Local Government Area, Chief Ikechukwu Ogbuofia, commended the lawmaker’s performance, but noted that decisions regarding political endorsements would ultimately rest with the state governor.
“You are doing well, but your return for a second term lies in the hands of His Excellency. Whoever he asks us to support, we will support,” Ogbuofia stated.
He described the visit as timely and appreciated Nkemkanma for maintaining cordial relationships with stakeholders across the constituency.
