Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has pledged the state’s support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, citing the President’s longstanding political ties with the state and his relationship with its prominent leaders.
Radda gave the assurance on Monday when he received a delegation led by former Zamfara State Governor and Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Abdulaziz Yari, who visited Katsina to seek support for Tinubu’s second-term bid.
Yari visited the Katsina and Daura emirates as part of efforts to mobilise support for the President. Although he declined to comment on the purpose of his visit, Radda said the delegation had concluded its engagements with traditional rulers.
“He was here to canvas for votes. He has gone around to visit the traditional institutions to explain to them the mission and vision of Mr President and his intention for this country,” the governor said.
Radda expressed confidence that the consultations would translate into electoral gains for Tinubu, assuring the delegation that the state would work towards securing the President’s victory.
“We assured them of our efforts to ensure the victory of Mr President come 2027 election, Insha Allah,” he said.
The governor described the reception given to the delegation as encouraging, claiming that the response from Katsina residents had been positive.
“It was very interesting, and they have seen it themselves. Katsina has responded positively to supporting Mr President,” Radda said.
He added that the traditional rulers visited by the delegation had pledged their support for Tinubu, whom they regarded as having strong ties to the state.
“They have shown their support, and they have pledged their loyalty to Mr President. They consider Mr President as the son of the soil,” he said.
Explaining the basis of Tinubu’s relationship with Katsina, Radda said the President had maintained longstanding political ties with the state’s leaders and supported its interests over the years.
He cited Tinubu’s support for former President Muhammadu Buhari, who hailed from Katsina, as well as his relationship with the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
“He has been a political friend to our late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. So Katsina State is his home, and he has come to reassure us,” Radda said.
Katsina holds political significance in northern Nigeria as Buhari’s home state. Buhari served as President from 2015 to 2023.
With preparations for the 2027 general elections gathering momentum, political parties and their allies are intensifying efforts to secure the backing of influential state leaders and traditional institutions.
Radda expressed optimism that the consultations would strengthen Tinubu’s support base in Katsina ahead of the election.
