From Agaju Madugba, Katsina
A broad coalition of Muslim groups spanning the 34 Local Government Areas of Katsina State converged on the state capital on Sunday evening to declare their unequivocal support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Organizers noted that the gathering drew leaders and representatives primarily from the prominent Tijaniyya and Izala Islamic sects. High-profile dignitaries in attendance included the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Muntaqha Rabe, and the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Kabir Masari.
In his welcome address, the convener of the meeting and former Chairman of the Katsina State Hisbah Board, Dr. Aminu Usman, stated that, “we have all agreed that our support and commitment during the coming election in 2027 is to give our total support to Mr. President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
Describing the endorsement as a collective resolution, Usman urged Muslim clerics to spread the message down to the grassroots communities, emphasizing that the decision was taken in the best interest of the nation.
Reinforcing this position, Professor Abdulaziz Mashi, a lecturer in Arabic Studies at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University, explained that the endorsement stems from the necessity of policy continuity under the current administration.
“Our collective position is to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office, so that he can complete the programme and direction he has set for the country,” Mashi said.
He further charged the clerics to objectively evaluate the administration’s performance, particularly in infrastructure and education, while urging them to encourage their congregations to acknowledge ongoing developmental strides alongside national challenges.
Speaking in the same vein, Presidential Aide Kabir Masari called on the Ulama and other religious leaders to leverage their immense influence to guide voters toward understanding critical national issues.
“As religious leaders, you have a responsibility to communicate what you believe to be the truth to the public, as your influence could shape voters’ understanding of national issues,” Masari stated, urging them to mobilize eligible voters for the President’s continuity project.”
