Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo has accused former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi of misleading his supporters with his recent defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He claimed Obi has deceived his supporters into believing he could secure the party’s 2027 presidential ticket whereas he has struck a deal to serve as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s running mate.
Keyamo stated this in an X post hours after Obi announced his defection from LP to the ADC during a gathering in Enugu on Wednesday.
Speaking at the ceremony, Obi called for a broad opposition coalition under the ADC to “rescue Nigeria” from what he described as poor governance, emphasising unity, production, and inclusive development.
He was joined by prominent figures, including ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, as well as other ex-governors and senators from the South-East and beyond.
In his X post, Keyamo mocked Obi for joining the ADC, a party he described as “belonging solely to Atiku Abubakar”.
He emphasised that the move was part of a prearranged agreement for Obi to run as vice president under Atiku.
“It is dishonest to take your faithful supporters through this emotional roller-coaster and deceive them that you are running for the Presidency when in fact you have just joined a Party belonging solely to Atiku Abubakar @atiku and you have a firm agreement with him to run as Vice-Presidential candidate,” Keyamo said.
The minister further criticised Obi for what he called a “volte-face,” urging him to acknowledge the political maneuvering rather than portraying it as principled action.
He predicted that Obi’s supporters would feel betrayed once the alleged vice-presidential role is announced after ADC’s primaries.

He said, “Some of your supporters jump out of their skins when we criticise you, but your character deserves public scrutiny because you seek very high office, so we shall continue to expose you.
“The greatest fraud you are now conjuring is to give hope to your supporters till the last minute when you will announce your decision to be VP candidate with the hope that it would be too late for them to leave you and then attempt to sway them to support one of the ‘structures of criminality’.
“However, Nigerians will teach you a bitter lesson in 2027; they are no fools. Mark it down.”
Keyamo slammed those claiming the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Tinubu administration was responding to Obi’s move out of fear.
“They really wish we keep mute about our potential opponents? Seriously? No, we shall beam the searchlight on you too as you do on us. Let Nigerians decide; let the game begin,” he stated.
According to the minister, Obi’s repeated claims of winning the 2023 presidential election makes the ADC move comical.
“But, pray, who is more afraid and desperate than a man and his supporters who crawl and beg for a Vice-Presidential ticket after parading you as the winner of a previous Presidential election? You want to be Vice-President to the person you previously ‘defeated’? This is all so comical!” Keyamo further stated.
He urged both Obi and Atiku to prepare for a crushing defeat in 2027.
Keyamo said, “Finally, when Nigerians speak in 2027, Atiku and Obi will realise that they made the worst demographic calculations in their entire lives based on the 2023 Presidential Election results.
“In due course, I will explain this in more detail to Nigerians.”
