The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Enugu East Senatorial District, Chief Kingsley Nweke, has vowed to mobilise constituents to end what he described as the culture of “political selection” in Enugu State.
Nweke, who spoke in a press conference at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre, Enugu, yesterday, said the people must take ownership of their political choices and demand accountability from elected representatives.
He said his campaign, anchored on the theme, “Uniting Enugu for political empowerment and restoration,” was aimed at restoring hope and promoting greater political awareness and participation among the people.
He said political decisions in the state had, over time, been dominated by a few individuals, leaving the electorate with little influence over who represented them.
Nweke said political enlightenment would empower constituents to ask questions, demand accountability, and distinguish credible leaders from those making “fake promises.”
He urged youths, women, and other residents of Enugu East to participate actively in the 2027 elections, insisting that the senatorial district should not be treated as the political possession of a few individuals.

The candidate, who hails from Ozalla in Nkanu West Local Government Area, described his movement as “Anyi Ejebego,” saying it was designed to promote collective action and return political decision-making to the people.
He said: “For a period of time, there has been selection in Enugu State and Enugu East Senatorial District. That is why some leaders have taken it as their self-settlement, selecting governors, senators, members of the House of Representatives, House of Assembly, and even local government chairmen.
“But the people of Enugu East Senatorial District have decided that we are going to go together to represent our people. Two heads are better than one.”
Nweke also urged voters to defend their choices against intimidation, inducement, and manipulation during the elections. He said youth empowerment remained central to his agenda, noting that his involvement in youth development predated his political ambition. He cited sporting events, carnivals, and skills-acquisition programmes he had sponsored to engage young people meaningfully.
Nweke, who disclosed that he is based in the United States, said he is involved in hospitality, car importation, and consultancy. He listed healthcare, agriculture, youth development, sports, information technology, and artificial intelligence among areas he would prioritise if elected, promising to pursue partnerships that could attract investments to the district.
The candidate also highlighted his humanitarian activities, including free medical treatment and support for specialised care.
“If I am elected, it will be about Enugu East Senatorial District and nothing else,” he said.
